Laboratory work falls into three main areas at Syngenta Huddersfield. The recruited candidate will be trained in all three with an expectation of a career which could span all three.
1) Process Technology – responsible for the process chemistry by which agrochemical intermediates are made.
2) Quality Control – responsible for the product analysis, ensuring that all products meet required specifications.
3) Process Hazards – responsible for determining the safe operable parameters for the chemical processes used in manufacturing.
Daily tasks will include:
·         Running of experiments
·         Carrying out chemical analysis and carrying out specialised safety testing

Desired qualifications
A minimum of 104 -112 UCAS points at A2 (grades BCC) to include A-Level Grade C in Chemistry.
·         GCSE A* - C (level 4-6 equivalent) in maths and English is also required

Training provider
The programme teaches both academic and vocational aspects of the Laboratory Scientist Degree Apprenticeship. It has been developed in collaboration with employers to ensure apprentices develop and demonstrate all the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to progress within the chemical industry and make an impact for their employer.
The programme is taught via tutor-supported distance learning over four-years and apprentices also attend residential schools for one week each year. This means that there will be opportunities to work with employers based throughout England
Apprentices are supported by a supervisor in the workplace and will have regular reviews of progress with Manchester Met staff in person, by phone or video conferencing.
All successful apprentices will achieve a BSc (Hons) Chemical Science qualification. Completion of the award allows apprentices to apply for Registered Scientist (RSci) status with the Royal Society of Chemistry.
