Sheffield Hallam Progress: Helping Students Reach Their Full Potential

SHU Progress gives extra support to students whose personal circumstances may mean they face barriers to going to university. It offers potential applicants to Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) additional support in the year of their application, throughout the process and beyond.
(SHU Progress was formerly known as the Compact Scheme)

What support do students get?

  • A personal contact at the university who will be there to provide advice and answer questions throughout the year
  • Exclusive and personal visits to the university, giving students the chance to meet current students and staff who can advise and support them
  • Support with making the best application to SHU, including workshops on preparing for interviews
  • Support with the costs of visiting the university for our events and open days
  • Exclusive emails from their personal contact that will include details of relevant additional financial or personal support, as well as more general support throughout the year
For students who are in or leaving care, are estranged from their families, have caring responsibilities, have experienced significant extenuating circumstances or are homeless or at risk of homelessness, the scheme also offers additional consideration during the admissions process.

This means that their personal circumstances will be shared with admissions tutors to consider when making a decision on a student’s application to the university.
